Congressman Shri Thanedar Introduces the Don’t Feed the Bears Act Washington, DC – Today, Congressman Shri Thanedar (MI-13) introduced the Don’t Feed the Bears Act of 2025 (H.R. 4422), legislation aimed at ending the hunting practice known as “bear baiting” by prohibiting the intentional feeding of bears on federal public lands. The bill directs federal land management agencies to ...
A bear feeding on bait presents the best possible target for a good, clean, killing shot - regardless of hunter skill. Trying to shoot a bear mixing it up with dogs is probably the worst possible presentation for a killing shot.
Bear Creek was helpful, but ultimately wound up being a "it's your chamber" or "not the ammo". These were from 2020. The 140's were supposed to be the fix for this, by starting the ogive earlier/shorter bearing surface (compared to the 160's). COAL is a RCH over max SAAMI length straight out of the box.
Black bear or grizzly bear? I'm assuming black since this is Michigan, but in either case bear spray is a wise choice. As far as guns go, though, according to Tim Sundles of Buffalo Bore, who knows more about shooting bears than most people, good stout 9mm loads are all you really need for black bear.
No bear sightings to report. Appreciate all the responses, decided on the .357 w/fmj and some bear spray for the woods. I also brought the 9mm, with all the crazy stuff happening overseas, in case we run into a "sleeper cell" at a rest stop! 09-18-2012, 12:12 PM Siamese spear 09-18-2012, 12:33 PM KAB55
Bear spray is usually OC (oleoresin capsicum) not CS - 18% OC is the only limit in Michigan, Which is concentration % not volume. There is not a volume, or quantity limit. Strongest? Lots of folks like the Fox Labs 1.4, UDAP or SABRE. Don't argue with crackheads. Why can't you use bear spray on a person? Maybe I got bad info from Google.
